Gimo Alcala, registered nurse
“I consider it a privilege looking after families’ loved ones during their final chapter,” Peacehaven Village registered nurse (RN) Gimo Alcala says.
Gimo has worked at the care home for about five years, first as a care worker and later as an RN.
He joined the team as a care worker when he was studying a Bachelor of Nursing at the Southern Institute of Technology.
When he qualified as an RN, he took up a role at Peacehaven, a place he had enjoyed working and had become familiar with.
“It was such a lovely team, and the residents were too.”
The management and senior staff had been a great support to him in his early days as an RN, he said.
“They were helpful, approachable and accommodating…and very patient.”
As an RN, Gimo is responsible for dispensing medications to the residents and undertaking medical and physical assessments to help inform residents’ care plans.
“I enjoy the interaction with the residents and their families. I enjoy taking care of them and developing relationships with them.
“I cherish those moments.”
Enliven management were very supportive of staff undertaking training and development and providing opportunities for promotion, he said. They were also flexible around staff work hours to accommodate family situations and childcare needs.
“It is a family-oriented organisation.
“I would absolutely recommend working for Enliven.”
