Priya Sharma - registered nurse

On graduating, registered nurse Priya Sharma said joining Presbyterian Support Southland (PSS) had been an easy choice.

Priya started with PSS on January 14 this year after completing two student nurse placements at Peacehaven Village. During those placements, she had been impressed by the welcoming atmosphere and supportive culture within the care home.

"I just love it here," she said. "Every day there are new learnings for me."

As a registered nurse, Priya advocates for patients’ rights, ensures patient safety by adhering to infection prevention and clinical standards, responds to emergencies, and provides leadership by supervising and supporting other team members, such as caregivers and enrolled nurses.

She said the support she had received as a new graduate had played a significant role in helping her grow in confidence.

"I feel as a new graduate that I'm very welcome by the management, and the senior nursing staff have been very supportive."

Priya also values the strong relationships she has developed with both residents and colleagues.

"I enjoy developing interpersonal relationships with the staff and residents. I have a very good rapport with them."

She believes PSS provides an excellent environment for nurses who are starting their careers, offering both support and opportunities to learn.

"I would recommend working for PSS, of course. It is a very nice environment to work in and very supportive," she said.

"It is a great opportunity to work for PSS, and for new graduates it is a great opportunity for learning."
