Royal Commission

Presbyterian Support Southland (PSS) welcomes the recommendations of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into historical abuse in state care and in the care of faith-based organisations.

The Royal Commission was set up by the government and is completely independent from the government and from faith-based entities.

As a historical and current provider of care to children and young people, Presbyterian Support Southland wishes to do all it can to support those who have been hurt in our care on their journey of healing.

We acknowledge the hurt and pain that has been caused in the past to those affected while in our care. We will be open and transparent, showing compassion, humility and care to those who wish to make contact with us.

Presbyterian Support Southland encourages anyone who has experienced abuse through their connection with PSS care, to make contact with PSS, to the Police, or the Royal Commission directly, to seek assistance should they wish to.

If you have previously been involved with PSS and signed a settlement agreement relating to an abuse claim with PSS, we waive any confidentiality clause or obligation on you so that you can feel free to contact us again or others that may need to.

Inquiries can be directed to Presbyterian Support Southland Family Works Director Judith McInerney, enquiry@pss.org.nz.

Nb. Historically, Presbyterian Support Southland operated dedicated children’s homes including Sutherland Home, Gladstone Home, Alison Home, Tweed Street Boys Home, Inglenook Children’s Home, Sutherland Home, Highfield Home, Highfield Disability Home, and at times managed placement of children with families in the community.
