Pastoral Care Coordinator - Invercargill

Presbyterian Support Southland (PSS) is a Charitable Trust and is the largest social service and aged care provider in Southland. PSS encompasses two service arms – Family Works, which offers a range of social services, from counselling and social work support, through to buddy and parenting programmes, and Enliven, which provides a range of services for our elderly. We work to enable a positive and lasting change for everyone in our community and offer support services to people regardless of their belief, ethnicity or background.

The Role:

We have a permanent part time position available (20 hours per week) for an exceptional individual who can provide non-judgemental, ecumenical, social, spiritual and emotional support and comfort to our residents (and their whanau) as they move through the final stages of their life.

For the right candidate this role could be combined with the SupportLink Coordinator role to create a full-time position. If you want to be considered for both roles, please let us know in your cover letter.

Key responsibilities:

The key tasks for the role include, but are not limited to:

  • The coordination and delivery of pastoral care and support for care home residents
  • Assisting with the coordination of end-of-life support and care for residents and support for their families
  • Assisting  with the delivery of special services, room blessings, regular church services and fellowship groups

  • Have a positive attitude and passion for working with and supporting older people
  • Understanding of the aged, dementia and palliative care needs of older people
  • Inclusive and respectful of all faiths, values and backgrounds
  • High degree of cultural awareness and sensitivity
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and able to effectively communicate with a wide range of people
  • Effective relationship building skills and establishing appropriate rapport with others
  • Empathic, friendly and approachable
  • Trustworthy, discrete, professional and able to maintain confidentiality
