From counselling and social work support through to parenting programmes, we work alongside families as they face challenges and support them to flourish.

Mō te tūraka | About the role:

Family Works currently have an opportunity for a permanent full time Social Worker to join our team in Invercargill. The objective of the Social Worker role at Family Works is to provide an effective, professional, culturally sensitive social work service for children, young people and their families.

Strong relationship-building skills are an integral part of this role, as you will work closely alongside families, as well as with referring agencies and other local service providers. Problem-solving and excellent communication skills are also required.  

Family Works offers a supportive work environment with great opportunities for training and development. 

Consideration would be given to part time opportunities for suitably qualified candidates.

Ngā kawenga | Key Responsibilities:

The key tasks of a Social Worker at Family Works includes:

  • Responding to enquiries from the community, including self-referrals and referrals from statutory organisations, community groups, and other professionals
  • Providing individual and family casework, counselling and social work support for children, young people and their families
  • Providing planned, and specific interventions to assist clients to develop their own resources and resolutions
  • Liaising with other professionals, social service agencies, and community groups
  • Demonstrating a commitment to own professional and personal development.

Ngā pūkenga | What you will need to be successful:

  • A SWRB recognised Social Work qualification or be nearing completion of a SWRB recognised Social Work qualification
  • Experience in and passion for working with children, young people and families
  • The commitment to providing services in the spirit of the Treaty of Waitangi
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A current full clean New Zealand driver’s licence
