Family/Whanau Worker

Presbyterian Support Southland (PSS) is a Charitable Trust and is the largest social service and aged care provider in Southland.

PSS encompasses two service arms – Family Works, which offers a range of social services, from counselling and social work support, through to buddy and parenting programmes, and Enliven, which provides services for the older generation.

We work to enable a positive and lasting change for everyone in our community and offer support services to people regardless of their beliefs, ethnicity or background.

The Role

The Family Start Programme is a home-based programme working alongside parents/caregivers to enhance health, education and social outcomes for children for the first five years of a child’s life.

Strong relationship-building skills are an integral part of this role, as you will work closely alongside families, as well as with referring agencies and local service providers. Conflict resolution, problem-solving and excellent communication skills are also required.

This opportunity is a full-time, permanent position (40 hours per week), based in the Invercargill area.

Preferred applicants will have:

  • An appropriate qualification in social work, health, education or a related field.  We may also consider applicants close to completing a qualification.
  • Experience and passion for working with children, young people, and families.
  • Have working knowledge of the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989 and other relevant New Zealand legislation.
  • The commitment to providing services in the spirit of the Treaty of Waitangi.
  • A current full clean New Zealand drivers licence.
