Family Works staff are set to gain invaluable knowledge and expertise early in 2019, when they take part in a five-day training course on trauma informed practice, thanks to the support of the Tindall Foundation.
A successful funding application to the Tindall Foundation has made it possible for the organisation to invite Dr Janine Joyce to facilitate this training.
The first two days will be theory-based, and the following three more practical in nature.
Family Works Manager Irene Te Koeti said the area of trauma was hugely important, and it was critical that staff understand how to manage it in the family setting.
“Many of the families we work alongside have experienced a form of trauma, so it is really important that our staff know how to respond."
We need to understand what it is, what impact it has on people and how it affects the way people may be able to achieve change in their lives,” she said.
