New Staff Bring Vast Experience

Enliven has welcomed several new staff to the team in key roles across the organisation, each bringing with them invaluable experience.

Karl Lamb

Manager – Peacehaven Village

Once a professional on the international rodeo circuit, Karl Lamb has now taken the reins of the role of Manager at Peacehaven Village, and it’s a move he is thoroughly enjoying.

After almost 20 years living in Te Anau, Karl and his wife moved to Invercargill late last year; happily coinciding with the management opportunity at Peacehaven.

Karl’s prior experience had been varied; he was the minister at Te Anau’s Lakeside Presbyterian Church for 15 years, before embarking on two years of driving tour buses and more recently managing a luxury lodge.

On moving to Invercargill to be closer to his wife’s parents, he was made aware of the vacancy at Peacehaven and the rest, he says, is history.

Although Karl is new to aged care, on completing his Masters through Otago University in 2011 he wrote a thesis focussing on the Baby Boomer generation as they begin to retire, which offered a good understanding of the challenges this generation will bring to rest homes.

He says the way the role is structured and supported by two clinical managers in Linda Cammell and Jenifer de Jesus, has also helped made the transition seamless.

“It has certainly been an interesting learning curve, but one I am very much enjoying.”

Outside of work, Karl is getting involved with his new community. He and his wife are involved with the Invercargill Christian Centre Church, they have bought a house with plenty of garden, and – as a former professional on the international rodeo circuit – he intends to link with the local rodeo association.

Rachel Linton-Mapp
Manager - Resthaven Village

A nudge from her manager at Vickery Court, and the desire for a challenge proved the motivation Registered Nurse Rachel Linton-Mapp needed to apply for the role of manager at Resthaven Village.

Rachel worked as Clinical Coordinator at Hospice Southland for a number of years, before a desire to work in aged care saw her take up a Registered Nurse role at Vickery Court, where she was also the palliative care resource staff member, and helped with the orientation of new staff.

The move to a managerial role at Resthaven was made more attractive by the fact the facility will undergo an audit this year – a motivating factor for Rachel.

“I had been looking at further study this year, but I love change management and with an audit this year, it was a challenge I thought I could get right into,” she said.
“There is a really nice team here, and a really good feeling in the place. We’re looking at processes, and gearing up to start the year off in the right way with regards to all of the work that we do.”

Rachel also has a particular passion in the area of palliative care and is keen to work closely in this area at Resthaven.

Rachel and her husband, Simon, have two children and live in Invercargill.

Cathy Hanson-Friend
Pastoral Visitor

After a 27 year career in social work and grief counselling, Cathy Hanson-Friend is now embarking on a new role as Enliven’s Pastoral Visitor.

The bubbly new staff member says her role is as much about offering spiritual support to residents as it is about being an advocate for them, and she comes into the role with an understanding that spirituality means different things to different people.

“It’s about connecting with residents and identifying what their needs are, whether they be faith-based, spiritual or it might be emotional support,” she said.
“I have a real passion around supporting and assisting people, and feel very privileged to be able to do this work.”

Cathy will be working alongside residents at Peacehaven Village, Vickery Court and Walmsley House.
